Best Enthusiast Road Bike: Cervélo R3 Ultegra
Go for gold without breaking the bank
Bikes in the enthusiast category are versatile & undefined they can be used to outsprint your coworkers to the town line, pedaled leisurely on long, chatty rides, and even raced. The R3 will make each of those ride experiences better. One tester described the R3 as “a high-end bike in a sea of midrangers.” Our testers universally praised the Cervélo’s all-around performance: Whether we were climbing past snowbanks on Mount Palomar, trying to outrun traffic in downtown La Jolla, or pedaling along the Pacific, the R3 fit the part. The Shimano Ultegra drivetrain worked flawlessly, and the Fulcrum wheels were the smoothest of any in this category. You pay more for those premium features, but they’re worth it. We also liked the silver paint, a welcome departure from the red, white, and black seen on so many bikes.
