Trail / Rider Skill Ratings**

Novice (Green Dot Trails)
These trails are suitable for beginners and bikers with little or no experience of riding trails. Riders should have basic knowledge of key bike handling skills such as position on the bike, balance and braking.  Novice trails are fairly flat and have only minor elevation changes.

Intermediate (Blue Square Trails)
Trails are suitable for both beginners and advanced riders, though bikers must have advanced bike handling skills and experience of trail riding. Requirements are good balance as well as the ability to shift body weight to overcome obstacles, descend steps, role moderate drop-offs and safely negotiate corners. Safe braking is also a must.  Intermediate trails will have climbs and drops with elevation changes, there are also bermed corners which are meant to be taken at speed for the highest level of enjoyment. Intermediate trails will also have some elevated and narrow sections where your balance will be tested. Riders to be competent at all Green level trails prior to attempting an Intermediate trail.

Advanced (Black Diamond Trails)
These trails have been created with seasoned riders in mind. They require excellent bike handling skills in order to master the many challenges they pose. Requirements include excellent balance, the ability to ride tight switchbacks safely, outstanding braking, jumping skills and a range of trail-specific techniques. Some advanced Trails will have a qualifier at the entrance. If you are able to complete the qualifier, that is ride up or down without having to put your feet down, then you should be able to ride the rest of the trail.  Generally Advance trails have difficult technical climbs with fast technical descents. Trails will generally have elevated bridges, exposed rocks and hairpin turns. Riders to be competent at all Blue level trails prior to attempting an Advanced trail.

**See IMBA Trail Difficulty Rating System for technical definitions.
